Of course I didn't, it only had 1 bar left for battery and so I didn't bother to bring it. We did a U-turn and headed back and pulled over a good distance away. That's when I got a better look. The truck was on fire!!
In my mind there's two things bouncing around in thought:
- there's something going down.....
- they are disposing of evidence. (ie a body or marijuana)
Rob didn't know what to do. He thought about getting out, but point # 1 made him think better he didn't want to walk into the middle of something. Right then when I am about to shit a brick from fear someone walks to the corner and looks right at us. OMG I thought it was one of the bad guys and he knew our license plate number which is a vanity plate displaying our surname. I said get outta here get outta here LOL find a phone somewhere and call 911...... cursing the fact I didn't have my cell phone and thinking a murder is taking place and now they have the license plate identification of a possible witness LOL
Rob got spooked himself I think and we pulled away. We started pulling into farm driveways and knocking on doors ringing doorbells of course at 12:30 AM no answer... until we FINALLY saw a farm with the house lights on. We pulled in and knocked. The guy actually fell asleep in front of the TV but was roused by the excessive knocking. He ;let Rob use his phone to call 911 and we did what we could do. But we went back to see if they'd show up if we needed to make a statement on what we saw. We got back there and the fire dept was already there. I was thinking to myself in an area full of volunteer firefighters... they got there pretty damn quick........ almost too quick to have responded to OUR 911 call.
We sat there and finally noticed a cruiser parked on the other side of the corner. I said to Rob let's see if he needs a statement that we called 911 and go home. We drove around the corner and wouldn't you know the guy that originally walked to the corner was there giving a statement. Apparently he had driven by and called 911 and was waiting for them to show up. Then we showed up, parked for a bit (while trying to decide what to do) and drove off (when we decided to knock on doors to call 911) and he thought WE were the perpetrators and was coming back to see what was happening. We thought THEY were the bad guys, they thought WE were the bad guys LOL
Turns out the truck was registered to a farm up the road and it was likely stolen and set ablaze at the gas station. The cop was a cool one and we all had a good laugh at the side story of this bizaar event and we went home, laughing at ourselves.
I hope they catch the guy who did it. Apparently another farm up the road had a truck stolen and burned, so likely a repeat offender.
