Somewhat Busy Today

We made stuffed lasagna for dinner yesterday and the recipe called for broccoli, but as you know Rob can't stand it. So I substituted asparagus (just as good for you) and it turned out well. Got the recipe from that Fat Free cookbook I was showing you yesterday. M'mmm calls for Ricotta cheese which is kind of like cottage cheese only with a bit more bite to it. They didn't have French loaf that the Parmesan garlic bread so we got Italian instead. Instead of buying lasagna noodles, Rob made some using his pasta machine. Turned out good and there's leftovers they are very filling.

But we spent over an hour in Zehr's and the tally came to $60 I think but we redeemed the remainder of our free grocery points to start fresh and the total we paid was $3 LOL I got a water bottle that I can carry around that holds 22 oz. Drink 3 of those and that's my 8 glasses of water that they recommend. Checked my weight this morning and down to 157, so total lost is 6 pounds. I didn't get much exercise yesterday and the day before kind of relapsed and made two sandwiches for lunch instead of one and yogurt and water and had more chocolate than I probably should have the day before that. I was feeling a little sluggish too having only had 4 cups of tea all day so I was probably a little dehydrated.

We priced the little mini cuisinarts and they are $49 at Crappy Tire... so going to see if they come on sale again. Rob suggested getting a new cuisinart because of the bowl on mine. I said NO! It still works and I'm probably holding on to it more for sentimental value - it's about 30 years old and my Mom bought it when I was a baby. He said most people want new so if one part goes the whole thing goes in the garage sale. I must be a dying breed because I'd rather pay $30 for a part than pay $200 for brand new when the old one still works just as good. He admitted that he'd be one of those that would buy new and toss old one. I was surprised LOL He saw a Hamilton Beach one at Zeller's website for $39 but I don't like the look of it plus it only has one speed: puree. The cuisinarts have two speeds puree & chop and I just think they are generally a better brand and stand the test of time: this one 30 years old and still ticking. Zeller's doesn't carry them. And when we checked Zeller's inventory - they didn't have any of their food processors in stock. The store here in town is such a joke. Even for buying clothes. Nothing for the 30something crowd. Either high school kids into skin tight whatever, or 80-90 year old granny panties (that I'm sure the 80-90 year old crowd can't stand)

I'm thinking of turning my website into a photography store and sell some of my prints. I set up an online shopping cart and will have to overhaul my site (but leave the HLC portion intact) I am watching the mail for this year's fall fair program and thinking of showing one of my photos. Every year they have a theme and you take a picture with that theme in mind. The program will have that theme in it but it probably won't show up until spring. I looked at the one last year to see what the prizes were. They are pretty dismal but it's more of the honour of winning in a competition. The photos have to be matted and framed and 1st prize is $7 LOL They have competitions for everything you'd be amazed. Best tart, best bread, best pie, best short story, best this best that. Everything under the sun. And everything is judged. I was talking with Rob about it and he said go for it I bet you'd win. So will think about it when I get that flyer to see what the theme is.

I went to Conestoga College's website to see what they offered for web design and nothing was open. Will try again later maybe closer to spring. I think University of Waterloo has an online edition of it but have to confirm. If people are going to be referred to me for websites I may as well become fully trained. That way I can charge more and feel more comfortable when people say "what would this look like?" and it would take me a day to figure out how to do it with google searches, plus I want to get into flash. I have the program to do it, but when I open it I'm in a daze and get dizzy. The guy I'm doing this website for is giving me $200 to do a page and put up his online shopping cart.

Can't wait to get that camera stuff I ordered. My friend Julie suggested I wait two weeks from the time of shipment as that's the typical wait with customs and such.

Well, the dishes are a-callin' and I best get my counter cleaned off. Rob is at work this morning because of a meeting but should be home this afternoon. Not sure what the plan is. I still have yet to eat breakfast.

Poem

The Kind Of House

The kind of house that I grew up in
Was the one you could chase a scraggy pup in
And let old Tabby sleep on your bed
This house had the smell of baking bread
And linen fresh from the wind-blown line
And a potbellied stove burning pitchy pine.
The rugs were worn on the creaky floors
Of the many rooms. But the roms had doors
And the doors would shut so a child could lie
With the cat by a wonderful sky
And read or dream or stare at a bird.
For here was a house where nobody'd heard
Of being adjusted: you yelled and fought
And worked and loved. And you sang a lot.
And growing up in this house was such
That you rarely noticed the process much.

Home Renovation Tax Credit

Harper Government's new Home Renovation Tax Credit to take effect today

Prime Minister Harper visits Ottawa home renovation site and meets workers who will benefit under tax credit plan.

28 January 2009
Ottawa, Ontario

Effective today, any Canadian who spends money on home renovations will be eligible to receive up to $1,350 in tax relief thanks to the new Home Renovation Tax Credit proposed in the Harper Government’s Economic Action Plan.

“Every time Canadians invest in home renovations, they are helping to create construction and building-supplies jobs in their own communities,” said the Prime Minister. “By providing an incentive for Canadians to invest in their homes, we are also encouraging them to invest in local jobs.”

To highlight the kind of projects that will be eligible under this plan, the Prime Minister visited an Ottawa-area home renovation site and met with a local contractor who will be better able to protect and create jobs thanks to the additional home renovation projects that will be encouraged through this tax credit.

The Home Renovation Tax Credit will provide a one-year, temporary 15% income tax credit on eligible home renovation expenditures for work performed, or goods acquired between January 27, 2009 and February 1, 2010. The credit may be claimed on eligible expenditures exceeding $1,000 but no more than $10,000.

The Home Renovation Tax Credit is one of several initiatives to help homeowners and homebuyers that is contained within the Harper Government’s Economic Action Plan. Before homeowners, homebuyers, and local construction and building supply workers can benefit from these new initiatives, Parliament must pass the 2009-2010 Federal Budget.

**Ironman**

Read this incredible story and then watch the video...

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?'
The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'.
They went on to complete the marathon together.
Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together.
One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.'
To which, his father said 'Yes' too.

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever.
The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island, Hawaii. Father and son went on to complete the race together. View this race at.....

Cleaning

Got fed up with the coffee spray on the kitchen wall (that defies logic to be honest....) so went on a cleaning spree in the kitchen. Scrubbed down the floor, walls and scraped down the fridge door (which was ripe with nicotine stains) so most everything is shiny. Still more to do so might do that today. Rob is off work.

I've also been doing website updates for a local disc jockey, he wanted his site banner updated and some grammer errors done that his friend did when he initialized the site for him. He has more changes so will get paid when he brings the next batch of changes around.

Also got a call from a gentlemen yesterday about web design he said he'll pay me anything just wants it done LOL He'd been fiddling with it for 6 months and can't get it going. I told him I charge $100 for the first page and $50 for each subsequent page. I think he was expecting a higher price LOL Both these websites the DJ's and this gentleman's site were referrals from Paul. I'll have to thank him for the business. He advertises that the business offers web design but they outsource it, so guess he decided to outsource it to me for awhile to spread the business LOL I'll have to call that guy today and setup a meeting date to discuss his site. He's from Teeswater that's a good trek from here so maybe he can come here or we can meet at a halfway point in a Tim Horton's :)

34ºF out there right now actually above freezing w00t!

Camera stuff I ordered hasn't come in yet. It was shipped from Oregon on Monday by regular Int'l mail. Hope it doesn't take too long, I always worry when expecting a parcel hoping it gets here in one piece and not one million. I hate relying on Postal Service and as such has no tracking number. Don't think I'll order from this guy again the worry isn't worth it and he didn't provide insurance.

Politics.

I imagine the internet is going to be quiet today as people will probably be glued to the television watching the Inauguration.

As a Right Wing Canadian, I have mixed emotions about what the next four years will bring. Up here, our experience with Left Wing politicians have been less than favourable in my opinion. Throwing the country further into debt with their socialized spending and raising taxes to the point that unless you're in the Upper Middle Class/Low High Class tax bracket (and even they were suffering) both parents had to work and stick the children in daycare, which was subsidized by the government for single moms on welfare. I don't get it.

Call me old fashioned but I do believe the Mother should stay at home with the children. It will be a cold day in Hell before I let some stranger with a college diploma look after my children. They push too much adult education (girls are learning at age 8 what their menstrual cycle is and both boys and girls are learning how to have sex at age 9) that should be taught by either Mom or Dad when the child is ready (because we all know each child is different) to learn or starts asking questions. This is NOT for the state to decide.

The current federal government cut taxes so that there is more money in the pockets of Canadians. He even lowered (gradually) the federal sales tax from 7% to 5% which might not sound like a lot, but it adds up. Joe Blow with zero credit can't just walk in off the street and get a $500,000 mortgage with no down payment. I had to jump through hoops to get my $12,000 car loan and that's a good thing. I earned my good credit. I have had zero handouts. When I was laid off from work, I dipped into my unemployment. I didn't go on welfare. I worked and I got a job that was right for our circumstance. I got my car paid off and now I do volunteer work since we are one of the few that can afford to have me at home tending to the house and cooking meals.

Another thing is that we have 5 banks nationally. We don't have independent banks or Provincial banks like there is State banks that I saw while travelling in the US. And all our deposits are protected by banking insurance that is required by LAW.

While I love the beautiful US of A, and will continue to visit my many friends that live in the beautiful country, I will continue to be PROUD as a Canadian that we don't screw up too bad!

Just my 2¢ (more like $2 worth - here's a toonie or as some of us like to say "the queen's bear bottom") worth, eh!

10 Easy Ways to Eat Healthier this Year

In accordance to my Year of ME resolution.... these are the habits I am going to try to adopt:

Try these 10 easy new habits and you'll be fast on your way to improved health.

1. Honey, I shrunk the food! Unfortunately, the opposite has happened: Portion sizes have grown to T. rex dimensions, increasing our waistlines, and the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. To combat the trend, shrink your portions by using smaller plates, asking for a small ice cream cone, beverage or sandwich instead of a large, splitting restaurant entrees with a friend or ordering a lunch-size portion even at dinner and vowing to never supersize.

2. Pump up the volume. Choose low-fat, high-fiber foods whose lower calorie density fills you up without filling you out. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes are high-volume foods that not only help trim your waistline but also provide nutrients essential for health.

3. Add to your meals -- fruits and vegetables, that is! Add one fruit or vegetable to every meal, and you'll be on your way to lower blood pressure and improved health. Try grapes for breakfast, raw broccoli with low-fat dip with lunch and fruit salad with dinner.

4. Drink up. Get a water bottle and carry it with you everywhere you go. You'll find yourself drinking water while you're driving, at your desk, during meetings and watching TV. Drinking water instead of coffee, soda, fruit punch or other sweetened beverages saves calories as it keeps your body functioning optimally.

5. Go meatless. Eat a meatless meal at least once each week -- two or three times if you're feeling adventurous! Choose a bean tortilla, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, veggie burger instead of hamburger, chili with beans instead of meat, or a tofu stir-fry. You'll consume less fat and saturated fat, plus increase your fiber intake!

6. Breakfast with champions. Studies show people who start the day with breakfast cereal have higher intakes of vitamins and fiber and lower intakes of fat and saturated fat. For the healthiest cereal, choose one with at least five grams of fiber and no more than eight grams sugar per serving. Pour on skim milk for a double bonus!

7. Must-not-see TV. Stop eating meals while watching TV or snacking during your favorite show. Research plus common sense tells us we eat more when we're watching the tube.

8. Make friends with Charlie and his pals. Water-packed tuna, salmon and mackerel are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids that protect our heart and cardiovascular system. Experts recommend eating these types of seafood twice each week.

9. Say "moo." Calcium not only builds strong bones, it also helps reduce blood pressure. Get adequate calcium by drinking milk, enjoying yogurt or low-fat cheese, or trying a calcium-fortified orange juice. If soy or rice milk is your beverage of choice, make sure it's fortified with calcium.

10. Brown bag it. Instead of buying lunch every day, or worse yet, skipping lunch altogether, pack your lunch at least one day each week. Make a sandwich with whole grain bread, low-fat meat, and lots of veggies like dark green lettuce, sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, and grated carrots. Add a piece of fresh fruit or a container of no-added-sugar mixed fruit or applesauce. Satisfy your sweet tooth with yogurt or fat-free pudding and your need for crunch with pretzels or baked tortilla chips. You'll save money and eat less fat, salt and sugar.

Curly Frizzy Hair and Camera Lenses

How's that for an intriguing subject line :)

Decided not to blow dry my hair and let it dry by itself. Unfortunately I think I should have blow dried it.... it's now a complete and total frizzball. Oh well. Just more entertainment for the kinette club tonight when I chair the meeting looking like I stuck my finger in an electrical outlet LOL

Also bought a camera lens kit off ebay. It from what I can tell has been gently used, and includes a .45 wide angle lens, 3 filters, a macro lens and the adapter tube so I can put the whole kit and caboodle on the camera. Can't wait. It is being shipped from Oregon.

Other than that, not much new :)

A few Good men and One DAMN Good Old Man

A FEW GOOD MEN & One damn good old man!

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm, walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something.

The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, "You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age." And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, "Looks like you're having a problem."

He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, "What outfit did you serve with?"

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands all round again and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name... "Congressional Medal of Honor Society."

I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence.

" Remember, old men like him gave you FREEDOM for America "

America is not at war.
The U.S. Military is at war.
America is at the Mall.

If you don't stand behind our troops,
PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!

Doctor Visit

Shew, what a visit, we were there for an hour just with the doctor.

He said with me (both of us really) I'm showing the typical signs of sleep apnea although a sleep test would confirm. He noted that both of us don't have a lot of space between our chin and our neck (meaning I have a slight double chin and Rob's REALLY got a double chin) so when we sleep, it all relaxes and rests on our neck causing our air flow to be interrupted. All these air flow interruptions interrupt our sleep and we're not getting the deep restorative sleep we need. Which in turn causes the vicious cycle, me sleeping about 10 hours a day, tired all the time, no energy, etc. If we were to lose some weight these problems could lessen or be eliminated.

He suggested to me (since I hate going out in this winter weather) that 30 minutes going up and down the stairs here would be a great start if I don't want to shell out the money for a gym membership. I weighed in at 163 pounds there and my ideal weight is about 130 at the high end of my frame/height. I could stand to lose about 30 pounds then.

He also suggested we drink more water instead of going for that second helping of food, and don't eat 3 hours before we plan on going to bed, that hurts the uninterrupted sleep too if your stomach is working while you sleep.

I do have to go for blood tests tomorrow though to rule out diabetes, thyroid and hormone levels.

Now to figure out what to have for dinner with all this on my mind LOL

Today

After Rob left for work this morning I sent into the bathroom to comb my hair and wash up when I heard my left hearing aid squealing - in my right ear. I took it out and realized that the tube that connects the back of the hearing aid behind me ear to the mold in my ear was split from age. So I phoned my Audiologist in Guelph (1 hour drive) and asked if I could be fit in this morning. They said yes and I quickly got ready and head out.

The roads were really dicey and it took me nearly 2 hours to get there but everything got fixed and my ears look fine to him. Dropped in at my parent's on the way home and installed some stuff on my Dad's new laptop and headed home.

While I was gone today wightman called to follow up with the closed captioning issue on TV and said they were pursuing the manufacturer of the cable box. Good thing I don't watch much TV or else I'd be a very unhappy customer.

Rob has class tonight. Tomorrow we both have a doctor's appointment. Not sure what I'm going to tell Dr. Kam since he wanted to see me and do blood tests for pregnancy that I now know is non-existent, but wanted to see me regardless. Rob is doing the New Patient interview so Dr. Kam will be his family physician.

The roads were a sheet of ice from my parents to here and there was an accident involving a snow plow and a car. Not to mention the accident that nearly happened when the line of cars started skidding all over the highway on the ice to stop FOR the main accident. It's currently 10.4ºF. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Monday 12 January 2009

Monday

18.6ºF currently and overcast. I went to bed early around 10:30 last night and I didn't get up until 8:40 this morning. This has been happening on a regular basis for about a week now and I hope it's just the recovery from the trip. I'm still tired and feel I could sleep.

I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and will have to tell him that I got my cycle while we were at Lizz's so that answers THAT question. I bet he will be checking my thyroid again. Last time I was this tired and no appetite was when my thyroid levels were very high. They have always bordered the high side but not enough to need medication. However I received some very sad news the summer of 1998 about a dear friend of mine, and it threw my whole body out of whack. It was 90ºF in the shade and I was always cold. I was closing the windows, putting sweaters on and turning the heat up. Mum followed behind me turning the heat down and opening the windows again. It was a miserable time for sure. Then my appetite totally went haywire. I felt like I could eat a horse I was so hungry yet two bites of my meal and I was full. Half the fridge was dedicated to my leftovers that I'd try to finish. Saw the doctor and my thyroid was extremely high - it gave a reading of 7 when normal levels are usually 0.1 to 0.5. No wonder I felt horrible. The acid reflux was also bad too. I've been getting a lot of acid reflux lately but I'm not letting myself jump to conclusions until I see the doctor. I feel like I'm falling asleep as I sit here after 2 cups of coffee.

I received more presents in the mail this morning. My yearly hummingbird calendar from my friend Keith in Cobourg, a card and Enya's newest CD "And Winter Came." I'm in the process of encoding it on my computer. I allowed myself to listen to the first track and fell in love instantly.

Time to plug away at some stuff here. Rob has classes tonight so will be gone from 4 to 11PM.

Honour

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, National Guard or Reserve - is someone who at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is honour. There are far too many people in this country who don't understand it.

The same would ring true for Canada's finest.

Noise complaint at Luke AFB, AZ

Thought some of you might enjoy this.

Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by Civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, Forgetting that it was there long before they were. A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on the Back.

Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote The local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her Day at the mall. When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it Must have stung quite a bit.

The complaint:

'Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at Precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this Wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early Bird special? Any response would be appreciated.

The response:

Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets' On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m, a perfectly timed four-ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques.

Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed At Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day. At 9 a.m. On June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.

Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of The jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of Taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them Their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all Those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.

A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional Aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer Witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning air show? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to The widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was In their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their Lives.

Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you.....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

A Funny

An elderly Floridian called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car has been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher:

' They've stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!' she cried.

The dispatcher said, 'Stay calm. An officer is on the way.'

A few minutes later, the officer radios in. 'Disregard.' He says.

'She got in the back-seat by mistake.'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US !!

Three sisters, ages 92, 94 and 96, live in a house together. One night the 96-year-old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses.

She yells to the other sisters, 'Was I getting in or out of the bath?'

The 94-year-old yells back, 'I don't know. I'll come up and see.' She starts up the stairs and pauses 'Was I going up the stairs or down?

The 92-year-old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters, she shakes her head and says, 'I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood.'

She then yells, 'I'll come up and help Both of you as soon as I see who's at the door.'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US !!!!

'I CAN HEAR JUST FINE!'

Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day. One remarked to the Other, 'Windy, isn't it?'

'No,' the second man replied, 'it's Thursday.' And the third man chimed in, 'So am I. Let's have a beer.'

A little old lady was running up and down the halls in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say 'Supersex.' She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown at him, she said, 'Supersex.'

He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, 'I'll take the soup.'

TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US !!!!

Now this one is just too Precious...LOL!

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play

cards.

One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and

said, 'Now don't get mad at me .. I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't think of your name! I've thought And thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is.'

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, 'How soon do you need to know?'

SENIOR DRIVING

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, 'Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 77. Please be careful!'

'Heck,' said Herman, 'It's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!'

DRIVING

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself 'I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went Through a red light.'

After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous.

At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they

went on through. So, She turned to the other woman and said, 'Mildred,

did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!'

Mildred turned to her and said, 'Oh, crap, am I driving ?'

Today

Went to bed early for me last night, around 10:30 and it was lights out instantly. I was too tired to even make a loaf of bread for today. Rob came in and I barely felt him get into bed. I woke up at 8:30 this morning and getting out of bed was NOT easy. I thought I had gotten hit with something. Came downstairs just in time to see Rob heading out the door to get coffee and he got instantly worried. I felt exhausted.

I assured him I'd be okay and sent him out the door to get coffee. Put a load of towels in the washer, poured detergent from the big bottle into the smaller easier to handle bottle. Did a load of dishes and put the recycle bins away.

Still tired but not the dragged out I was this morning. It's beautiful out 22ºF and sunny :)

Going to make myself some oatmeal and fix myself some apple and pear juice that Lizz and David got me on while down there (I drank three glasses in one sitting) and head out on a walk. Julie made me a hooded scarf black and off-white striped. Pattern HERE (membership to Lion Brand required - it's free)

Julie is also making a hooded baby afghan using Lion Brand Pound of Love in a baby green colour. She also gave me the pattern to it (it's one of those free patterns on the label) but so far I haven't been able to find Lion Brand's "Pound of Love" yarn which really doesn't surprise me since Bernat is the company here in Listowel. I'll have to check Wal-Mart when I'm in the vicinity.

I'm still working on the granny ripple afghan, got a few rows done while on holidays (mostly while driving, but spent more time admiring the scenery and taking in car pictures than crocheting) and on the last ball now. When that's done I'll put a yellow trim around and call it done.

Well, must get to my day. Everyone have a great one and stay warm.

2009 - The year for ME.

Last night after we went to bed I snuggled up to Rob to get warm and he actually had to push me away a little. I asked him if he was okay and he said that he had definitely gained weight while we were away. Everything is feeling snug as a bug (or perhaps a little snugger to be more accurate) and I said I think I did too and that we were probably going to see a little walking in our very near future.

He quipped back yeah, walking to the fridge and getting more food.

It was an innocent enough comment but it struck home with me.

Then while watching TV today (a rarity) I saw a show that struck home. Given my family history of borderline diabetes, heart issues, extreme weight issues and a myriad of other issues, I realized that if I wanted to live a longer happier life (and not constantly stuffing my face with comfort food such as Doritos and microwave popcorn....) I need to take action NOW.

So 2009 is going to be the year of a healthier me. I'm not going to try to lose weight, I'm simply going to eat better and stick at least 20 minutes of exercise (ie: walking) in each day.

I quit smoking in 2007, I'm going to even better my health in 2009.

Here starts my journal for 2009.

Current weight: 161 pounds.

A Late "Merry Christmas" and "A Happy New Year"

I haven't been here on multiply for some time due to the holidays, but wanted to drop in and say a quick hello from White County, Arkansas. We've had a lovely week here and between visiting and helping with goats we've seen some lovely sights.

Tomorrow (Saturday) we start our two day trek home stopping in Indiana overnight at another Hummingbird Club Member's home to sleep. Sunday we head back home to Canada.

Weather forecast is calling for light snow for when we go home, let's hope that is all we have. I'd prefer no snowing weather or ice type weather, but will stick with light snow over ice.

It's been nice weather here (compared to freezing temps at home) not getting lower than 35F during the day.

I have lots of photos that I plan on sharing once we return home.

I end by saying...

Merry Christmas and a Wonderful 2009!

Cheers,
Jenn
