Dead Penguins??

Dead Penguins??

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica - where do they go?

Wonder no more!!!

It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life.

The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintaining a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

"freeze a jolly good fellow."

" Then they kick him in the ice hole."

Hey ..... I don't make them up.

I just send them on !!!

Cheers - - -

Cat on Horse (Cute!)

Missing Everyone

I miss all of you but if we're not working outside/at the trailer/picking up supplies, we're vegging!

Yesterday topped the cake for the humidity though. We drank at least a gallon of water each and Rob only visited the men's room once..... I was able to get in there three times. We sweated the rest out. Laundry took a day to dry on the line the air was so thick.

But I got one more flowerbed done, the back deck is done. Going to work on the two small flowerbeds in front of the shed today once the shade moves in there and Rob will get started on the side deck this afternoon. He's gone to pick up supplies and do some inquiries.

I'm drinking my tea right now and will be switching to water shortly.

Have a great weekend everyone!

heading out this afternoon to pack up the RV and going camping this weekend for the Zone B Kin Kamp weekend.

Taking the camera of course.

Mum and Dad are coming up on Sunday for Father's Day and we'll make them pork chops. Same ones we had, Dave and Jeanette. Need to pick them up today.

We'll be back either Sunday or Monday.

Wet out there

The rain from yesterday still has everything soaked and more rain is expected today. Weeding still isn't done but a good dent has been put in it. Today we're going to work on getting stuff into the shed for storage.

I'll be catching up on housework and laundry.

Clam chowder soup in the crock pot for dinner tonight. I'm not a real big fan of clam chowder it's a little too heavy a seafood flavour for me but Rob said it may taste better to me if it had tomatoes in it so that's what he's making.

We made Fettucini Alfredo last night trying out our new pasta attachment for the Kitchenaid Mixer. I made the sauce in my new Magic Bullet. I love that thing already best $40 I ever spent.

I should really take pictures of the progress we're doing here. The deck is more torn apart for rebuilding, the mulch is down in the one flowerbed, and part of the other flowerbed is weeded. I have 4 flowerbeds left to do; two on either side of the shed door and the one by the deck and the front flowerbed. The front flowerbed is gonna have a lot of stuff dug out of it for when we rebuild the front deck. I can tell already the outside is gonna look like a million bucks by the time we're done and then there's the inside left to do. Oy!

Stopping for a spell

Been working since 2 am on the new hummingbird club website (shhh hasn't been formally introduced yet) since geocities will soon be no more.

Woke up for a pee break and then couldn't get back to sleep, so thought I'd work on it. Apparently it stimulated my mind even more and I was wide awake since then. I imagine I'll sleep good tonight though.

It's finally official, I'm getting a clothes line. The posts were bought today and so far one hole has been drilled. Then the concrete truck showed up and Rob and another Rob (from Campbell's) are in the shed now getting it set. The truck is still here.

Me, I'm working on this website and reclaiming my kitchen. The hummingbirds here seem to have disappeared, but they are still fighting over the feeders at the seasonal site. I also saw a cedar waxwing also! Rare bird for me to see.

The magic bullet I've been drooling over finally went on sale 25% off so bought one for $29.95. It's the neatest thing, you can make smoothies with it, baby food, sauces, just about anything you can do in a blender.

I made myself a Pina Colada. Yummmm :)

Crikey

I think I'm going to need one of these when we're done LOL

Raking again today but nearly done. If we can get it done (we being the "royal" we....) we can plant grass seed.

Right now I'm taking a break and contemplating eating something before I go and do more work.

Thursday 11 June 2009

Ahhhh Shower.... :)

Just what was needed to help this back relax. Rob continued to work out there and get it tilled up and the rest of that mess cleaned up.

I went out later and he asked me if I was up to raking a little more or did I want to pick rocks or neither. I said I'd pick rocks and he could rake.

After raking a row he realized he had tilled it a little too hard making the raking harder than it should have been. Unfortunately they are calling for rain tonight so I hope it ends in time for us to do a better tilling in the morning and more easier raking.

I still get the odd tickle in my throat but feeling generally better. I've been listening to my body that's for sure. The past several mornings I've been getting up at 10 and I don't understand why. But put it down to the work we've been doing.

I'll be glad when this hard crap is over. I never liked raking. Or rock picking LOL

Going to finish my glass of coca-cola and call it a night.

tired and sore

A very productive afternoon has left me very tired and my back very sore. So are my legs and arms too for that matter. Because of that this is going to be a short note.

We cleared the yard of rocks and large branches and started tilling it up. As Rob tilled it up using the tractor, I was picking up large rocks that got thrown up from under the ground. Then cleared more brush in the garbage section of the yard and got rid of the garbage platform the previous owner of the house built there. It's all going to be nice lush green grass. I so cannot wait. Rob asked me to start raking it up so that it was more level after being tilled. I did as much as I could but the constant bending over to pick rocks and such already did a number on my legs and back and I was not able to get a whole lot raked. At one point I had to sit down on the ground. I told Rob I was done my body wouldn't work anymore. He said then leave it. I think he was a little bummed that I couldn't work anymore since now he'll have to till it up again for the seed. He was hoping to seed on Monday and if we need the tractor a second day the next time we can get it is this time next week. Time will tell.

Took pictures.

Can't type no more.

Too Funny

Tuesday

Slept on couch last night I had another coughing fit and that decided it for me.

Lo behold I actually slept! Dont't know if I coughed during the night but I sure did this morning my throat was just full of the gunk.

Took another dose of Otrivin this morning and helped a bit, didn't drink my morning tea and just had orange juice.

I do feel more rested that's for sure and the cough seems to be also originating from the chest right about now. We'll see.

I had to go to the post office and mail the Meaford Registration form out hopefully he'll get it before the 15th which is the deadline to get it in.

I also stopped in Spinrite and got a stitch holder and a shawl pattern book looks like it's from Annie's Attic. "Quick To Stitch Prayer Shawls"

Then went by the beer store and picked up a case of bud light for Rob and the neighbour as they work on the inside of the shed.

A lot of work in there got done, we had contractors in digging it out and it took them most of the day with a backhoe. Yep, Rob got smart the day he decided to hire someone for that otherwise it would have been weeks. Last night Jed got home and was looking at the work. Then he started shoveling gravel in it for us!! Rob got in there and they worked away on it for about an hour or so. Rob is working on it now. If I wasn't coughing so much I'd help him but then again I'm useless with a shovel. I took him out a pitcher of ice water and a glass. It's not warm out by any stretch of the term so that's good for working. High for today to be 59F It won't be until Friday and Saturday that we see 68F and then back down to unseasonal values.

G'night

Well, it's that time of day for me again and I sure hope I sleep better tonight than I did last night. I did not get to sleep (I ended up sleeping on the couch) until around 4:30 am because of the stupid cough.

I bought a sinus wash but I don't think I did it right. But still too chicken to try it out again right yet for fear of drowning LOL

Especially when I saw the how to video....

http://www.sinucleanse.com/squeezevideo.htm?link_id=1

(it's good for a laugh I find)

I'll try it in the morning. I took a shot of Otrivin for now and hope that lets me sleep.

I'm beat.

cough

Still got this stupid cold or whatever the heck it is and it's moved back into my throat where I have this insatiable tickle. It's driving me crazy. It's the same one I had in March.

I told Rob to go ahead and visit Paul and Annalese I don't feel like going out there and trying to play cards when I get an impromptu coughing fit. I took a dose of delsym and it didn't seem to take. Funny how some think it is just the best stuff ever and it doesn't even do anything for me.

He phoned them up and postponed it to tomorrow. Somehow I don't think the cough will be done by then.....

We'll see.

Thursday 4 June 2009

Wow

I don't know what hit me yesterday but Rob suggested that we go to the trailer and see if that made me feel better and pack a picnic lunch and all that. I went to the store to get salad makings and barely survived the trip. I walked in, told Rob to put the groceries away and I was going to lay down. I felt nauseous the whole time at the check out.

The nap didn't make me feel any better if anything I felt worse. Rob made me chicken soup and I couldn't keep it down.

I'm feeling better this morning just achey but still feel stuffy.

I can't get over how fast it hit me. But hopefully I can get better here on out. I must admit I nearly asked Rob to google the symptoms of swine flu it scared me that much.

Priceless

As promised by the coworker, the drinks were flowing when the job was done. After a long night, Sammy finally makes it home. The next morning he wakes up with a huge hangover.

He didn't even remember how he got home.

As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

Sammy had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table.

And, next to them, a single red rose!!

Sammy sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed.

He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house.

He takes the aspirins and cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror.

Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:

"Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Wifey"

He then stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper.

His daughter is also at the table, eating.

Sammy asks his daughter what had happened the night before.

"Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind, you fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door'

Confused, he asked his daughter, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?"

His daughter replies, "Oh THAT... Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, 'Leave me alone bitch, I'm married!!'

Broken coffee Table $239.99
Hot breakfast $4.20
Two aspirins $.38
Saying the right thing, at the right time:

PRICELESS

Under the Weather

throat is still dry but went out and got my box of tea and havung a cup now. It's soothing my throat somewhat and I'm hoping it will help too.

My body is also paying for the weeding I did yesterday but of all things it's not my arms that hurt but my backside! More weeding to get done but I'm going to see how I feel later.

Nice and sunny today but still sweater weather outside. High to be 11C (52F) for today.

News of the weird

HIRING PERKS

Will work for ... breast implants?

In a sign of the economic times, an understaffed health clinic in Prague is offering nurses who sign a three-year contract an unusual hiring bonus: breast implants, tummy tucks or liposuction.

"It has been a success," said Jiri Schweitzer, a manager at the Iscare Clinic, told the Australian Associated Press, adding that dozens of applicants had to be turned away.

Czech nurses have been lured out of the country by higher wages in other European nations - but since offering the unique recruiting clause, the clinic has been fully staffed.

The most popular choice among nurses is the breast augmentation, which runs about $4,400 - almost three times a nurse's monthly wage.

In other news, injuries among Czech males 18- 40 have gone up 3,822% in recent months.

BITING WORDS

Choose your words carefully in Meridan, Conn. A police training co-ordinator there has resigned from his job after responding to a co-worker's "bite me" remark by, well, biting her.

Francis Woodruff, retired Waterbury police captain, told state police that he was "horsing around" and only pretended to bite application analyst Rochelle Wyler, according to the Hartford Courant.

Wyler told police Woodruff was teasing her and she sarcastically said, "Whatever Woody, bite me."

Well, the literal lawman did just that and allegedly chomped on her arm - leaving teeth marks and bruising according to a police report.

Awkward.

But the situation would have been more uncomfortable had Wyler said: "Kiss my butt."

DOUGHNUT DEBACLE

Apprarently Krispy Kreme doughnuts do the same thing to the sewer system as they do to your digestive system.

Fairfax, Va., county officials are blaming the doughnut maker for clogging sewers with yeast and grease. They've filed suit after the folks at Krispy Kreme refused to cough up a couple of million dollars for repairs to the system.

The lawsuit says the damage was caused by "excessive quantities of highly corrosive wastes, doughnut grease and other pollutants."

Krispy Kreme says the allegations are unfounded.

In an unappetizing revelation, a nearby county claims it once ran a closed-circuit camera inside a pipe to show the grease deposits, but the camera got stuck in the goop.

Bon appetit!

Prozac, cancer drugs don't mix

Prozac, cancer drugs don't mix

Breast cancer survivors risk having their disease come back if they use certain antidepressants while also taking the cancer prevention drug tamoxifen, worrisome new research shows.

Tamoxifen cuts in half the chances of a breast cancer recurrence. Many women also take antidepressants for hot flashes, because hormone pills aren't considered safe after breast cancer.

Doctors have long known that some antidepressants and other medicines can lower the amount of tamoxifen's active form in the bloodstream. But whether this affects cancer risk is unknown.

The new study, reported yesterday, is the largest to look at the issue. It found that using these interfering drugs -- including Prozac, Paxil or Zoloft -- can virtually wipe out the benefit tamoxifen provides.

Not all antidepressants pose this problem, and women should talk to their doctors about which ones are best.

One more for the good guys :)

Taliban run out of Swat town
Pakistan army claims victory after taking control of major centre
By ROHAN SULLIVAN, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Last Updated: 31st May 2009, 3:20am

ISLAMABAD -- The Taliban have fled the Pakistani army's advance on the main town in the Swat Valley, delivering the military a strategic prize in its offensive against militants in the country's northwest, commanders said yesterday.

Taliban fighters had dug themselves into bunkers built into hotels and government buildings in Mingora, and initially offered stiff resistance as troops first closed roads leading to the town then began moving in earlier this week, army spokesman Maj.-Gen. Athar Abbas said.

Aid was being distributed to some of the estimated 20,000 who were trapped in Mingora, and water and gas supplies were being restored. But Abbas said it would be at least two weeks before power is switched back on, and refugees were not yet being encouraged to start returning to their homes.

About three million people have fled the fighting in Swat, and the exodus has raised fears of a humanitarian crisis.

Abbas said an unknown number of militant fighters were able to escape Mingora despite the military having it surrounded.

The military launched a major offensive about one month ago in the Swat Valley and neighbouring areas to oust Taliban militants who had been extending their control over the northwestern region near the border with Afghanistan.

Government troops had been advancing steadily into the Swat region for about a month, bombarding towns from the air and fighting house-to-house with Taliban gunmen in some places.

"When they realized that if they did not leave these areas the noose would tighten around them and they would not find a way to leave ... they decided to end the fight and leave," Abbas said.

Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said the number of people uprooted by the fighting had reached "around three million," and that more than 190,000 of them were living in refugee camps. The rest are staying with relatives or relying on goodwill from local residents.

The widespread domestic support for the campaign so far could sour if the government is perceived to have failed the refugees, or if a high number of civilian casualties is revealed.

Abbas said an emergency medical team had been flown to Mingora and would work to reopen the town's hospital and treat wounded civilians.

The Taliban has warned it will launch terrorist strikes in Pakistani cities in retaliation, and claimed responsibility for last Wednesday's gun and suicide bomb attack in Lahore that killed at least 30 people. A day later, three suicide bombings killed at least 14 people in two cities in the northwest.
